Cable & Wireless Upgrading Cables to Blue Hill
On Wednesday of this week, a team of Cable & Wireless staff were busy installing a new distribution cable in the Blue Hill area.

Cable & Wireless carries out major mechanical maintenance
Have you been wondering why the telephone and internet services needed to be off last week? Cable & Wireless have been undertaking their major biennial maintenance and inspection programme on the satellite dish at The Briars.
Rope access training
Cable & Wireless employees have recently been involved in a comprehensive course in Rope Access Training at Level 1. During mid June to early July 2004, nine employees, which included the riggers, linesmen/fitters and their foreman and supervisors undertook the training under the leadership of Acting Deputy Fire Chief, Alan Thomas and his team, and have been learning the techniques of rope access and working at height in order to support safe systems of work.
Fire safety training
Cable & Wireless employees have been involved in fire safety training between February and April 2004.

Promotion – Manager Finance

Deirdre Maggott commenced her employment with Cable & Wireless as a Billing Clerk in April 1993 and was commended for outstanding performance during the changeover to the Unix CBAR Billing System in 1996.
She was successful in achieving the post of Senior Finance Clerk in April 2000. |
In July 2003, Deirdre took on the role of Acting Manager Finance during the absence of the substantive post-holder and successfully managed the Finance Section, whilst also coping with loss of headcount.
On 1 February 2004, Deirdre was promoted to Manager Finance and has now taken full responsibility for this very specialised role within the Business Unit.
Promotion - Assistant Supervisor service Provisioning

Anthony Thomas commenced employment with Cable & Wireless St Helena as a Linesman/Fitter in 2001. Anthony was successful in achieving the position of Assistant Service Provisioning Supervisor and took up new challenges with his appointment to this post with effect from 1 March 2004. |
Long service awards for Cable & Wireless employees

Cable & Wireless is pleased to congratulate Wendy Henry, Manager Traffic on achieving 15 years service with the company on 22 April 2006. |

During her service with Cable & Wireless, Wendy has developed her skills and competences as an Account Clerk, to having aspired to the role of Manager Finance, before settling into her current position as Manager Traffic.
Wendy was awarded with a gift in recognition of this milestone achievement in her career with Cable & Wireless.
Local Customer Care Training Course
11 Cable & Wireless employees were recently involved in a customer care course provided by local trainers Logical Solutions. The outcome of the ‘Love or Lose Your Customer’ training course is designed for participants to understand both internal and external customers, the importance of good communication and customer care, and ultimately, customer retention.
The participants ranged from well established staff that have been employed by Cable & Wireless for a number of years, to the young and recently employed! Participants found the course to be enjoyable and useful, and while Cable & Wireless has always strived to maintain the highest of standards, the course provided a good opportunity for staff to share ideas and to reiterate the importance of good customer service.
All 11 participants successfully completed the course, and were presented with certificates on 31 January 2006.
