Today, Cable & Wireless Seychelles Ltd provides over 20,000 telephone lines and about the same number of mobile phones in Seychelles.
There are actually 15 Remote Line Concentrators (RLC) located on the main three inhabited islands of Mahe, Praslin and La Digue. These RLCs are linked to the two main telephone exchanges by PCM cables, fibre optic and digital microwave systems.
Voice & data network
Today, there are over 19,000 telephone lines in the Seychelles and over 26,000 telephone stations representing 23 principal lines per 100 inhabitants, the highest figure in the whole of Africa. The islands also boast public telephone exchanges linked by Pulse Code Modulation (PCM) cables, fibre optic and digital microwave systems. 99.5% of businesses in the Seychelles have a telephone and most businesses are connected to a fax machine.
The telephone service in the country is fully automatic, thus enabling its customers to dial and obtain connection within seconds, without assistance of an Operator. International calls can be made to almost all countries in the world via the International Direct Dialling (IDD) whereby customers are able to dial direct to more than 250 countries world-wide. Cable & Wireless Seychelles Ltd has the highest penetration of International Direct Dialling per hotel room in the whole of the Cable & Wireless Group.
With a digitalised network more and more services are now available namely, Integrated Switching Digital Network (ISDN), Packet Switching, Video Conferencing, Very Small Aperture Terminal (VSAT).
Mobile/GSM coverage
With a total of 30 Base Stations scattered around the three main islands, the company today provides over 90% radio coverage to its GSM mobile users.
We offer mobile prepaid and subscription services to our customers. With the Cable Freebird subscription package, we offer 80 free minutes. With Cable Prepaid, there is no rental charge and no bills. For the past four years, we have been selling handsets and accessories also. Through our roaming partnerships we also offer roaming for visitors to the island and also to locals who travel abroad.
