Public Services Network
The Public Services Network (PSN) is a coalition government priority aimed at creating the effect of one network from multiple suppliers and different infrastructures.
The PSN will deliver choice for the public sector by providing much greater flexibility in the way you can ‘mix and match' network, infrastructure and application components from different suppliers.
The PSN infrastructure underpins the government ICT strategy and is core to the transformation that must take place in order to reduce the budget deficit. The ICT strategy has cloud computing at its core or G-Cloud as it is called. To deliver G-Cloud without the PSN would be like Google™ without the internet.
OUR ROLE
Cable&Wireless Worldwide has been engaged in the development of the PSN since its inception in July 2007.
- We chair the joint industry / government Governance workstream that is developing the operating model for the PSN
- We chair the new PSN Governing Body, a trade association for industry suppliers into the PSN
- We also co-chair the G-Cloud 'Quick-wins' workstream
- Our consultants have contributed to the technical, security and service project workstreams
- We are fully engaged in the development of the Government Conveyance Network (GCN) that will be used to interconnect supplier data networks and other services in terms of network transport
We are fully committed to developing a range of PSN compliant products and services starting with the Government Conveyance Network, (GCN).
Right now we are working to develop PSN compliancy for all our public sector products. Please contact your account manager for details.
PSN IN LOCAL GOVERNMENT
We believe that there is a very special case for local authority interest in the PSN as well as for the large departments.
As a collective of over 450 individual organisations with broadly the same purpose and business functions, local government has the best opportunity to reap the benefits of collaborative procurement. The PSN will open up opportunities to share applications, reduce costs and improve service.
