PZ Cussons connects across its group

20 April 2010: Cable&Wireless Worldwide today announces that it has signed a multi million pound, three year contract with PZ Cussons to provide a global Wide Area Network (WAN) connecting its offices in Europe, Asia and Africa. The WAN will provide added resiliency for all of its core sites, as well as connecting them to the rest of the organisation.
PZ Cussons develops leading brands in selected mature and emerging markets that have potential for future growth. As a global organisation with offices based in Africa, Asia, Europe and Australia, PZ Cussons required a secure and resilient network throughout its sites that could provide effective and smooth communication across the Group.
Cable&Wireless Worldwide was able to accommodate PZ Cussons' requirements with its ability to link to the South Atlantic 3 (SAT-3) submarine cable, the submarine telecommunication cables running from Portugal and Spain to South Africa, connecting several West African countries, and the Southeast Asian telecommunication (SEACOM) cable system. SEACOM is the first cable to provide broadband connectivity to east and southern African countries including South Africa, Madagascar, Mozambique, Tanzania, and Kenya, that previously used slower and expensive satellite connections. In addition, following Cable&Wireless Worldwide's significant investment in the region PZ Cussons will connect to the West Africa Cable System (WACS), the 3.84Tbps, high-speed, fibre optic network once it goes live in 2011.
The new network being delivered for PZ Cussons, based on Cable&Wireless Worldwide's global Internet Protocol Virtual Private Network (IPVPN), provides a high-speed, next-generation, fully-converged communication solution that will carry all PZ Cussons' voice, data and Internet traffic with inbuilt security, resilience and scalability. It replaces their existing network that failed to give PZ Cussons the level of resiliency and back-up it required. The network will join all of PZ Cussons sites internationally. PZ Cussons sites in Nigeria and Ghana will be linked to the network via SAT-3 with extra layers of resiliency in Nigeria provided by a subsidiary cable running to Lagos via Benin. PZ Cussons site in Kenya will be connected to the international network through the new SEACOM cable system. Cable&Wireless Worldwide will also provide back-up satellite coverage for Nigeria, Kenya and Ghana.
PZ Cussons are looking forward to a very reliable and resilient communications network that will allow them to deploy a new global communications strategy including instant messaging, voice and video. In addition, new Group wide-applications for HR and Finance are planned for 2010. The additional bandwidth, reliability and network management that the new WAN will provide will allow all of these projects to deliver real business benefit over the next 12 months.
In addition, Cable&Wireless Worldwide is providing PZ Cussons with Application Performance Management (APM) which helps it become more efficient by using its network capacity more intelligently. By analysing network traffic in real-time and optimising essential traffic, APM increases the visibility and acceleration of all applications that use the WAN, and as a result, the most essential applications will be prioritised so they do not compete with other bandwidth-hungry applications.
