Cable&Wireless Worldwide signs up Department for International Development

15 November 2010: Cable&Wireless Worldwide, a leading provider of mission critical communications, has secured a new five and a half year, £10.3 million* contract on its global telecoms framework with the Department for International Development (DFID). The department is expected to save approximately £9 million from its telecommunications budget over the term of the contract.

DFID, which operates across 44 global sites and has more than 1,200 users, becomes the second government department, after the Foreign & Commonwealth Office, to sign up on the global telecoms framework. C&W Worldwide will provide fast and reliable connectivity to all of DFID's sites, allowing its users to seamlessly communicate with one another, which in turn will help the department to deliver aid more effectively into some of the poorest and most remote regions in the world.

The advanced IP services, which include IP voice, will also ensure better value for money through the reuse of existing C&W Worldwide shared services, as well as enable DFID to improve operational efficiencies and increase inter-departmental collaboration across the globe.

Jim Marsh, Chief Executive Officer, Cable&Wireless Worldwide, said:

"I am delighted to announce another important customer win in our public sector business and the second contract on our global telecoms framework. By utilising the one network, both DFID and the Foreign & Commonwealth Office stand to benefit from greater collaboration and increased efficiencies, all of which supports the Government's broader Public Sector Network strategy."

*After the roll-out phase, the first material financial impact of this contract is expected in 2011/12
