Gill Sans is our primary typeface. It is a very clear, contemporary and legible typeface, and it works very well in a range of sizes - from small captions to major headlines.
We have some basic principles for using Gill Sans:
- roman fonts should be used for most applications, and especially for body text
- italics should be kept for emphasis within areas of copy, or for specific items such as captions
- bold type should be used in moderation, to create impact where needed, but it should not be set as large areas of copy
- the use of Gill Sans Extra Bold is not recommended
- Gill Sans Light is an attractive option for headlines, as it is offers good visual impact, without dominating the page or layout
You should always use the approved versions of Monotype Gill Sans - see the next page for installation instructions.
