Our network
Cable & Wireless Ascension Island is the provider of national and international telecommunications services on Ascension Island.

The telephone network is based around two digital telephone exchanges located in Georgetown and Two Boats. Distribution of telephone lines around the island is by copper network. Fibre optic digital transmission systems are used to interconnect the two exchanges and provide connection to the Gateway Earth Station. The military private networks also connect to the Cable & Wireless telephone network via fibre optic links. The exchanges are fully automatic and international direct dialling is possible to almost all countries in the world. Today there are over six hundred telephone lines to residential and business customers throughout Ascension Island.

The main technical facilities are located at the main office in Georgetown and the Satellite Earth Station at Donkey Plain. The satellite Earth Station uses a Standard B antenna and works to the Intelsat 901 satellite at 342 Degrees East. Our international direct satellite links are to the USA, Germany, St. Helena and the UK. The Earth Station also provides International Private Leased Circuits (IPLC's) to various destinations.

The "Atlantis" ISP is also located at the Georgetown main office and from here businesses can have dedicated internet connections or 56k dialup. "Atlantis" ISP connects customers to Cable & Wireless’ Internet Backbone (AS3561) via a 1.5Mbps/512Kbps Asymmetric Satellite link.

Telephone operators are also located at the Cable & Wireless main office and from here they offer a range of operator services including international directory enquiries. The Cable & Wireless Earth Station and a customer owned Earth Station can be remotely monitored and controlled from the Operations Centre in Georgetown main office.
