Cable & Wireless Ascension Island is the provider of national and international telecommunications services on the island. The Cable & Wireless Ascension Island Business Unit consists of a small (twenty-four employees), but highly motivated team who are customer focused and performance driven whilst striving to achieve our goal in the Company’s mission statement: "to lead the world in integrated communications".

Customer Services
The section is responsible for the growth and effective delivery of all telecommunication services supplied by Cable & Wireless to customers on Ascension Island. This includes all telephone, internet and data related services. The section is the focal point for all customer enquiries, comments and/or complaints and provides a professional level of customer care when demonstrating the services on offer in order to ensure maximum customer satisfaction.

Networks
The section is responsible for the provision and restoration of all services from the central systems to the customer’s location within specified timeframes. The section ensures the integrity of the central systems and strives to achieve best practice in the performance of these systems, which includes the Earth station (international hub), telephone switch, international maintenance centre (IMC), mobile radio systems, and internal/customer premises equipment. The section provides a high degree of engineering technical expertise and support, both for the internal business unit and external customers.

Information Systems
The section is responsible for the maintenance, security and integrity of the Business Units’ information systems and internet/network terminal equipment. The primary functions include the acquisition and allocation of hardware and software, including installation and upgrading, the provision of software support and the monitoring of software usage and the maintenance and integrity of the networks. This section is also responsible for the provision and administration of the public internet service, ensuring that provision and restoration of customer services is carried out to the highest standards.

Finance
The primary function of the section is to ensure that the financial status is accurately recorded and monitored and is the focal point of all financial transactions and reporting. The section also provides financial support and expert advice to the other sections of the Business Unit and is responsible for the monitoring of all actual and forecast expenditure, the operation of customer billing and credit control, and ensuring compliance of the Business Unit with all financial procedures and regulations.

Human Resources
The section provides the Human Resources function to all employees of the Business Unit of which the responsibilities include; maintenance of Staff Accommodation and operation of Repairs and Maintenance Budget, travel and training, health and safety, administrative support to Staff in line with the terms and conditions of employment and personal assistant to the Business Unit Manager.

There are no vacancies at present within the Ascension Island Business Unit.
