India

Cable&Wireless Worldwide first entered India in 1872 as one of the first under sea cable companies of the world by the name of Eastern Telegraph Company. Since 1995, we’ve been providing enterprise and carrier telecommunication solutions in the country.

We provide a host of managed network services (MNS) for our clients. Apart from MNS, Cable&Wireless Worldwide provides network design and integration services, networking and telecom consultancy, design and integration services to our customers.

India is one of Cable&Wireless Worldwide’s Global Markets regions and is led by Shali Thilakan, who has been in the company for over ten years.

We have a deep understanding of the country's business culture and regulatory environment, and are pioneers of progress: We are the first international telecom provider to launch IP-based solutions in India, and the country's first international carrier to receive BS7799 security certification and Cisco Gold Certification.

CAPABILITY:

We serve more than 150 customers in India from five key offices in Bangalore, Mumbai, Pune, Chennai and New Delhi. We’ve establish a strong hold in the Information Technology and BPO verticals of India, wherein we work with ten out of the top 15 outsourcing companies. Other verticals we have a strong position in include; BFSI, Media, Manufacturing/Retail, Pharma & Oil.

With a US$30 million investment in our Indian Multi-Service Platform (MSP), we offer multiple levels of cable redundancy to ensure seamless business continuity. The Multi-Service Platform (MSP), launched in 2009, now comprises four PoPs in all four key metros. Cable&Wireless Worldwide has one of the most resilient network infrastructures available across, in and out of India with maximum cable system diversity (SMW-3, SMW-4, Falcon, FEA, TIC, i2i and SAFE submarine cables). With the Europe India Gateway coming online, we anticipate continued momentum in our business in this key market.

We've invested nearly US$50m in the Europe India Gateway, a new high-bandwidth, and undersea cable system providing greater, more robust network capacity between Europe and India, to help global companies expand their operations. We are market leaders in Hosted Contact Centres (HCCs) and provide network operation support services to around 6,500 global customers.

Innovation in India:

Last year, we expanded our reach and capability in the India market substantially. We’ve set up a new Global Markets Solutions Centre (GMSC) in Bangalore. This centre serves as an innovation hub for offshore product development for the company’s global markets – those outside of the UK including Asia Pacific, Middle East, Africa and North America.

The Bangalore centre looks at developing new, standardised and repeatable solutions specifically made for the company’s customers in global markets.  These solutions are developed by combining the strengths of Cable&Wireless Worldwide’s core product development, consulting, engineering, and emerging technologies teams and some will be built in collaboration with Cable&Wireless Worldwide’s clients and business partners across the globe.

From service operations, in October 2010, we inaugurated a new India Centre of Excellence (ICE) in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. The new centre is part of the Company’s expansion plans in India and serves as the second Network Operating Center (NOC) in the country. The first NOC is located in Bangalore and together these two centres manage and support communication networks of over 6,500 enterprise and carrier customers across Asia, Europe and the Americas. Together these two centres support some of our major international customers.
